Manang: The Dumre-Besisahar-Chame road, the crucial lifeline to Manang, has been successfully reopened after a three-day interruption caused by adverse weather conditions. The road's accessibility was reestablished as weather conditions improved on Monday.

The disruption had a significant impact on tourists, tour guides, and local residents who were en route to the district, leaving them stranded. The road segment experienced a collapse at Kharkhare in Besisahar municipality-6, Lamjung, due to heavy rainfall.

In the aftermath of the road's reopening, vehicles have transported vital supplies including medicines and daily essentials to the region. District Police Office Chief of Manang, Rahamat Ansari, confirmed the arrival of these much-needed provisions.

Manang, situated beyond the Himalayas, is particularly susceptible to weather-related challenges, especially during the monsoon season. Monsoon-induced disasters can severely impact the district's transportation network, leading to disruptions in the supply chain, including essential daily goods.

Despite the daunting weather-related hurdles, the district continues to attract approximately 14 to 15 tourists daily, as reported by Lekhnath Gautam, Chief of the Annapurna Area Conservation Project (ACAP) Manang Office. It appears that foreign tourists are becoming accustomed to navigating these weather-related challenges during their travels.

Suman Adhikari, a sub-engineer associated with the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame Road Project Office, confirmed the successful restoration of the road. However, Adhikari cautioned that the road's usability remains susceptible to potential disaster risks, even though it has been reopened for the time being. This reinstatement provides a temporary respite for the transportation concerns in the region.
